Kindergarten Enrollment
Do you have a student that will be 5 years old by September 1? They are eligible to enroll in kindergarten! Let us help find the school for your child.
Our neighborhood schools have a Kindergarten Registration Night on February 16, 2023 at 6 p.m. Missed the date? Please call the school to enroll after the registration night.
To register for kindergarten, you will need:
- BHM Registration form
- BHM Health & Emergency form
- Copy of child's birth certificate
- Up-to-date Immunization records
- Pre-school screening documents
We have three elementary schools of choice that you may apply to for kindergarten – Montrose Elementary STEAM School of Innovation, Tatanka Elementary STEM School, both are part of the Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD) and Discovery Elementary School.
Montrose Elementary STEAM School of Innovation (MESI)
If you do not live within the MESI boundary, any local family may apply to Montrose Elementary STEAM School of Innovation. As part of the Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD), students are provided with FREE transportation. Application process begins in October 15, 2021 - December 31, 2021 with the lottery held the first week in January. A second application time starts January 10, 2022 and ends March 11, 2022 with the lottery held March 14-15, 2022.
To attend Montrose Elementary STEAM School of Innovation, the following forms need to be completed:
Tatanka Elementary STEM School (TESS)
If you do not live within the TESS boundary, any local family may apply to Tatanka Elementary STEM School. As part of the Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD), students are provided with FREE transportation. Application process begins in October 15-December 31, 2018 with the lottery held the first week in January. A second application time starts January 14, 2019 and ends March 8 with the lottery held March 14-15.
To attend Tatanka Elementary STEM School, the following forms need to be completed:
- NWSISD application
- BHM Open Enrollment
- BHM Registration
Discovery Elementary School (DES)
Multi-age instruction at Discovery emphasizes personalized learning, and looping allows students to form long-term, positive relationships with teachers. Discovery Elementary serves 250 students in a welcoming, small-school environment.
Discovery Elementary School's (DES) Kindergarten Registration Lottery is scheduled for Tuesday, February 5, at 2:30 pm.
If your child is registered in the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose school district, you will receive a mailing of information regarding the DES Kindergarten Lottery. Information and application forms will be mailed out early in January. Applications for DES kindergarten are due back to the DES office by Friday, February 1, 2019. Under the Enrollment Options Program, students in Minnesota can enroll in a public school outside the district in which they live. This enrollment option encourages parents to become knowledgeable about the needs and interests of their children.
Families outside the district may apply to Tatanka Elementary STEM School or Montrose Elementary School of Innovation. As part of the Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD), students in member districts can attend any magnet school for FREE with transportation provided. Member districts include Anoka-Hennepin, Brooklyn Center, Elk River, Fridley, Osseo and Rockford. To attend Tatanka Elementary STEM School or Montrose Elementary School of Innovation, the following form also needs to be completed:
