School Information

Northwinds Elementary opened its doors to students for the first time in the fall of 2006. We currently have about 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. In addition to the core curriculum which is taught by classroom teachers, students in grades K-5 have specialty classes that meet weekly. These classes include music, physical education, and innovation station. A wide variety of special education services are available to students with special needs.

Attendance Line

If your child will be late or absent to school for any reason, please call our attendance line at 763.682.8804, and leave a message with your child's name, teacher name and the reason for the absence. Unreported absences will be considered unexcused. If you are planning a family vacation, please remember to fill out and turn in a vacation form from the office in advance.

Parent Visits

Parents are always welcome to visit Northwinds! All visitors must check in at the main office. You will be required to sign in and wear a badge while in our building.
If you would like to have school lunch with your child, please call the office ahead of time so that we can reserve you a lunch at 763.682.8800.

Drop Off and Pick Ups

If a child is late to school, we ask that an adult personally check the child in at the office. You will need to sign your child in on our office log and obtain a pass for class. If a child needs to leave early during the school day, please come to the office and check the student out through a secretary or the health office. FAQs for Parents

What time can students arrive at school?

Students can enter the building at 7:25 am, and school begins at 7:45 am. There is no supervision available until 7:25 am as teachers are prepping for classes and attending meetings, and students will need to wait outdoors if they arrive prior to 7:25 am. Make sure that your child(ren) dress appropriately for the weather in the event that they need to wait outdoors for several minutes. If your child is a walker, make sure that they are not leaving the house too early to avoid an extended wait time.

What time does school end?

Classes are dismissed at 2:25 PM.

If students are shuttling to another school location our shuttle buses leave Northwinds at 2:15 PM.

Where can I drop off and pick up my student from before and after school?

You may drop off and pick up your children from the North Entrance using our express drop off lane. Please use caution and do not allow your students to run across the express drop off lane if you are parking in the parking lot. They must use the crossing guard lane and be escorted to the sidewalks. If you are coming inside at the end of the day to pick up your child from school please wait in the North entry area for your student to meet you after the bell rings.
